For years, getting from Sorrento toward Orlando meant SR 46 and patience. The Wekiva Parkway rewrote that map, connecting the area to the region's beltway network.
The upside is obvious: shorter commutes, better access to jobs in Orlando and Seminole County, and easier trips to the airport for anyone who travels.
The complication is growth. More subdivisions, more traffic on the local roads that feed the parkway, and more pressure on the rural character people moved here for.
The parkway also came with a genuine conservation win — significant land protection around the Wekiva basin as part of the project.
